Now that’s a funny title for a blog…
Hey, do you call yourself a Christian? Did you know that means you’re a leader? What?! Yes that’s right a leader. I know you may be thinking, “I’m not a leader, you have no idea what you’re talking about.”. Just because you’ve prayed the prayer of salvation, doesn’t mean God is done with you yet. Did you know that people are watching you and how you live whither you want them to or not? I love this quote and for the life of me I couldn’t find out where it came from, but it still rings true.
Christ did not die a public death for you to live a private faith.
Did you read that? Read it again and let that soak in. Christ loved YOU so much He died for you in a very public way, and yet so many of us are willing to live a life of private faith.
So often Christians are willing to clock in their time on Sunday morning and then clock out for the rest of the week. They got their Jesus hours in and they are good to go. But that is so NOT how God meant this life to be. He created you with a purpose and that purpose was to bear fruit, or in other words tell people about HIM. It’s like this amazing chain reaction. You love someone and point them to Christ and then they love someone and point them toward Christ and the fruit keeps growing!
Now living a public faith looks different in every person’s life. We all have different talents and gifts and can be used in so many ways. However we are ALL called to bear fruit…
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. John 15:5-6
We’ve talked about having talents and gifts given to each of us from God. We need to use them to the best of our abilities. We all have people in our lives who don’t know Jesus, and it’s our job to tell them. Why do you think God put you where you are? You aren’t supposed to sit around and wait for someone else to do the work. It’s your job to do the work.
It can be as small as inviting a friend to church or as BIG as preaching from the stage. But there is a million ways in between. I serve in several ministries at my church, but my heart is with student ministries. Teenage girls have been placed on my heart by God and I have spent my entire adult life discipling and teaching them about Jesus. Now I’m not saying that I am prefect, far from it. I mess up and say the wrong things all the time, I drop the ball and come up short most of the time. But the point is I’m doing it. I read the verses above and think, “I don’t want to be cut off from Christ and thrown away.” and my guess would be you don’t want to either.
So here’s the challenge… Show me your fruit! Below is a photo of my small group girls, they are in 9th and 10th grade and we hang out every Wednesday night studying Gods word, right now we are reading through the book of James. Now it’s your turn, I want to hear how God is using you. Comment below, instagram or tweet with the hashtag #showmeyourfruit and lets show the world how Christ followers are changing the world!
