It’s so easy to become distracted in this life. So much to do, see and accomplish that we so easily lose focus on our purpose in life. Sometimes “life” can just take over. School, work, kids, friends, errands, outings, and our bank account can become all-consuming, so much so we lose focus on why we were created. God created this amazing world and life for us to enjoy, but Satan likes to use it to distract us from what God created us for. We were made to worship Jesus Christ and tell others about Him. That’s the purpose of life… bam! I could just end this post right there. However if you’ve known me for any period of time you know I am long-winded 😉
The last words Christ said to His disciples were:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19
We are Christ disciples as well and this message is for us too. The bible is not just a nice book of stories, it’s a love letter from the creator of the universe. And it applies to our lives 2000 years after it was written! We can’t lose our focus, we can’t wounder from His path. There are people around the world who need the hope of Christ, that need to know and feel His love. Don’t let Satan use life’s distractions to pull you from your purpose. Stay focused.
Having amazing friends who love me help me stay focused. I have the gift of God-fearing and Christ loving friends who aren’t afraid to tell me how it is and call me out on my crap. I even spent over an hour on the phone a few days ago with a friend who was worried about me, it wasn’t an easy call to make, but he made it, because he wanted me to keep my focus on Christ and His plan for my life. The people who hold influence in your life are important, who do you allow to influence you?
My friends who influence me keep me focused, they push me, sometimes harder than I would like. But a dear friend and pastor Todd Clark has said repeatedly “show me your friends and I will show you your future.” That can be a real reality check for a lot of us. We all have people in our lives that maybe shouldn’t be there, or we allow those not so good friends influence us more than we should. I decided a long time ago to surround myself with gifted and passionate friends who LOVE Jesus Christ. We keep each other focused and we work together to “make disciples of all nations”. We cannot live out the command in Matthew 28:19 alone, we need each other, we need a team to keep our focus.
Take some time today to get focused. Read your bible, pray and put it into action. You need all three of those things, not just one. You need to be in God’s word to know what God says, you need to pray to know what God wants specifically for you and you have to go out and do it!
