I just got back from four glorious days spent in Lake Tahoe. God used this time to speak into my heart on some major life decisions that God has placed in my life lately. I spent a lot of time in prayer and waiting to hear from God. It’s really hard in our crazy lives to stop and listen. We are so bumbared with information and the world tells us we need to be constantly busy that we don’t have time to wait and listen to God’s still quiet voice.
Sitting on a rock listening to the sound of waves on the most crystal blue lake I have ever seen, I could hear God’s voice in my heart. We need those moments. We need to not put them off.
Working with teens I get asked a lot, “How do I know what God wants me to do?” or “How can I be sure that I am doing what God wants in my life?” the answer is, You need to listen to Him. And that’s not taking 5 minutes to pray and then run out the door to do something more important. It’s not showing up to church on Sunday’s and then living like you don’t know Him the rest of the week. It’s taking time to stop. I am the worst at stopping, but I NEED to. I can’t hear God in the mist of craziness.
Now I’m not saying you need to travel hundreds of miles to sit on a lake shore to hear God’s voice. You just need to make the time to stop, and to truly listen. We get so impatient and expect that if you’ve set aside time then God will just speak. But we need to realize something, we aren’t God. We can’t just tell Him where and how He is going to speak into our lives. We are His humble servants, it’s our job to make the time and wait on His timing. It may seem frustrating at first, waiting. However God promises He will answer. And what peace you will have when He does!
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him… Psalm 37:7
Being still is not my favorite. However being still this week has given me clarity and peace, so it was worth it. Plan out some time to stop and listen to God, you will be greatly rewarded!
